Yellow Tape Records, Cairo, Egypt

1 min read

Egypt has a big scene of crate diggers, more people are interested in vinyl here than lots of countries. Such a iconic disco era like what Egypt had in the 80s can only lead to experienced collectors of music through time. For a bit less than a decade now, Yellow Tape records have been holding down the fort as Egypt's record collection hub & shop, being home to so many record collectors holding some of Egyptian classics to new age electronic beats constantly reinventing the Egyptian scene.

First time I discovered Yellow Tape was at a small pop up stage they do yearly at Sandbox Festival in El Gouna. Vibes were always super cool and real, with music i never heard before, which is rare. The speakers setup was so small, it was not meant to be for a big crowd, which made it perfect when you just want some good music and avoid the bigger picture.

The collective often do their own parties and special events at their record shop in Cairo, which s a spot you can go at if you want to hear some good music in a speakeasy boutique record shop type of hub, but you have to find out when, they don't promote it so widely to keep the crowd as professional as possible.
